The Fine Art of Equestrian Photography

Rhoda Gordon Bullock, MFA, Photographer

bio

Current Work

For the past several years, I have specialized in photographing horses and their riders both in New Mexico and California. I experimented for several years using a slow shutter while photographing the Rodeo in New Mexico.

I found the images could show the dancelike movement of the riders when the actual image showed movement as well. The gestures were similar to Flamenco dance, and were reminiscent of that art form.

My most recent work focuses on the bond between horses and their riders, and many times, just the beauty of the equine athlete and its rider. The two in combination are always the result of immense dedication and training. The challenge is to find those images amongst thousands that hold the essence of the beauty and the bond, and can live on to tell the story that is worth telling.
